Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Who can apply? Do I have to be in the military?

Applicants do not have to be active-duty Soldiers to apply. AUSA scholarships are open to eligible members of the Total Army community, including Soldiers, family members, veterans, ROTC cadets, and supporters who meet program criteria. An active AUSA Premium Membership is required.

Do I need to submit separate applications for multiple scholarships?

No. Applicants complete one application, which allows them to be considered for multiple eligible scholarships. Your core information, essays, and supporting materials are reviewed across applicable opportunities, so you do not need to submit separate applications for each scholarship.

How do I apply if my family member is the AUSA member?

Eligible AUSA Premium Members may apply using their membership number. Their spouses and children/dependents may also apply under that same Premium Membership. Applicants who are not applying under an eligible family member must have their own active AUSA Premium Membership and provide a valid membership number during the application process.

What is the scholarship selection timeline?

After the application deadline, submissions enter a comprehensive review process led by volunteer boards and subject matter experts. Applications undergo multiple phases, including eligibility screening, scoring, final board review, and a detailed verification process before selections are finalized.

  • February 20, 2026 – May 7, 2026: Application period open
  • May – July 2026: Review, board scoring, and verification process
  • End of July 2026: Awardee announcement and notification

When are recipients notified, and will awards be available in time for school enrollment?

Recipients and non-recipients are notified via email once the review and verification process is complete.  Scholarship recipients are typically announced at the end of July following completion of a comprehensive review and verification process. Awards are intended to support the upcoming Fall billing cycle.

AUSA understands that some institutions require tuition payments prior to the notification timeline. In such cases, and when necessary, awards may be applied toward the Spring or Winter semester.

To ensure proper stewardship of scholarship funds, AUSA works directly with each recipient to confirm allocation. Recipients are required to provide documentation (such as a tuition statement or billing confirmation) to verify that funds have been properly applied toward eligible educational expenses.
